I try very hard to include the boys in the preparation food. Bebop is at a point where he can prepare simple snacks and the occasional breakfast or lunch for everyone. Recently I caught myself always asking Bebop to help me and not teaching the two little boys how to be helpers. Since then I’ve been very intentional about including Magoo particularly in food preparations. While making a simple fruit salad a few weeks ago, Magoo asked me to take picture so I could blog about his amazing fruit salad.
Pealing and slicing the bananas came first. The two little boys use our plastic lettuce knife to cut things. They are taught to hold the handle with one hand and place the other hand on top of the blade to make sure little fingers stay out of the way.
Next came pealing the small oranges. This was a big challenge for Magoo’s fine motor skills. I could tell he was reaching his limit, so I cut the strawberries while he pealed.
The final salad! We all enjoyed have a fresh salad with our lunch.
