This is a wrap up of our week trying to find a balance between doing school and just having fun.
Bebop is 5 years old, Magoo is 2 1/2, Doodad is 6 months.
This we we were supposed to use Good Night Moon as our literature unit using the Teaching the Classics method, but the book is currently lost. (Please tell me that happens in your house too!) Instead we used Runaway Bunny, also written by Margaret Wise Brown. Bebop is doing a very good job with the Socratic list questions. So far we are just using the first three questions sets: Where and when does the story happen and who is the story about?
Bebop did two writing assignments: copying a sentence from Runaway Bunny and copying the memory verse from his chore card. When I give him a structured assignment like copy work, he does a very good job using proper letters and spacing. However, when writing for fun he still uses all capital letters and generally forgets spaces between words.
Magoo actually asked to do school this week! He wanted to be just like his big brother, so I gave him a chore card to “copy” and had him color the letter “I”. We have also been working on independent play. Being the second child, Magoo is never alone and can’t play by himself. I’ve started setting a timer for 10 minutes and giving the boys things to do in separate rooms.
Doodad thinks he can crawl. Every time I put him on the floor to play, he rolls to his belly and kicks his legs. Then he gets really mad if he can’t reach a toy. It’s funny to watch. I think this little guy is going to be crawling soon.
On Tuesday, our entire school day consisted of listening to our preschool playlist and folding laundry. Bebop can now fold socks, which is a huge part of laundry. Magoo can fold cloth wipes and napkins. After spending the morning working on laundry, everything in our house was washed, folded, and put away. It only last about 15 minutes until Doodad required an outfit change, but it was my little victory of the week!
And then there was the garage sale… I hosted the annual garage sale fund raiser for our local MOPS group. Starting last Tuesday afternoon, I had stuff dropped off at my house. There were moms and kids off and on Wednesday through Saturday helping sort, price and then sell everything. Saturday at lunch, I got all 6 big kids to sit down at the same time and each lunch together. Bebop and Magoo had so much fun playing with their friends. We made enough money to cover the MOPS budget next year with a bit leftover for a service project!
